Chemo Playlist

Once upon a time, in the 80's, we made mix tapes of music that we gave to our friends.  Now we have playlists, on our personal music devices, that for some reason we can't share; it's something I've suggested to the top engineers at that fruit company.  So since I can't make you a mix tape, here is a list of songs I have been associating with my experience.  Some are inspirational, others just situational, and some just keep getting stuck in my head.  I'll keep updating as I get new ones and add their stories.

Brave- Sara Bareilles
Get Lucky- Daft Punk
Don't Stop Believing- Journey
Roar- Katy Perry
Happy- Pharrell Williams
Just the Way You Are- Bruno Mars, a song one of my fave students hummed often in my class, reminds me of her.
Listen to Your Heart- Roxette, Nurse AC often asks to listen to my heart, and I try not to hum this as she does.
Survivor- Destiny's Child
I Will Survive- Gloria Gaynor
Turn, Turn Turn- The Byrds
I'm Still Standing- Elton John
Africa- Toto, I blame Jimmy Fallon.

For Now- Avenue Q "Everything in life is only for now."
I Know Things Now- Into the Woods  "And I know things now, many valuable things that I never knew before..."
Reflection- from Disney's Mulan, when I started loosing my hair this became my anthem for about a week.
Pumps Your Blood- from Happy Days, this is a wonderful song that explains how the blood moves through your body.  It gets stuck in my head every time I have a transfusion.
Part of Your World- from Disney's The Little Mermaid, currently I identify with Ariel, wishing to participate in regular life activities but sitting in the hospital and doctors office.
Somewhere Over The Rainbow- from The Wizard of Oz, my wish is that when my treatment is over I wake up changed, but thinking I had the abilities all along.
---------
8/20/14
Living On a Prayer- Bon Jovi
Final Countdown- Europe
Kidney Now-30 Rock, its a song from a fake telethon to get Kidney for Jack's father.  Kind of like Farm Aide, but not.
Get Lucky- Daft Punk "We're up all night to have fun..."no.  Really we are up all night because we are passing the fluids they pumped into me during the day.
One More Day- Les Mis
Good Time- Owl City, this song reminds me of my students, whom I miss.
Hotel California- The Eagles, this often gets stuck in my head at the hospital, because El Camino Hospital is commonly referred to as 'The Hotel' by my medical team since it is so nice in comparison to other hospitals in the area. The line of the song that resonates most with me is, "You can check out any time you want, but you can never leave."
